The Thirteen Characteristics of Quality Physical Education
The following thirteen characteristics provide a comprehensive framework for understanding, planning, delivering and evaluating QPE. Together they represent the essential features of programmes that enable all children and young people to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for lifelong engagement in physical activity.
These characteristics are interconnected and should not be viewed in isolation. Whilst presented separately for clarity, effective QPE programmes demonstrate all thirteen characteristics simultaneously.
